Mary, Did you Know?

Mary, did you know? This is a song that is very popular this time of year. It is a beautiful song that leads your mind to wonder just that. Did she know?

We know that the Bible tells us many things that would stand to reason that she had to have known. She had to have known that this baby was special given that she was a virgin. Mary knew that the angel appeared to Joseph and told him so that he would believe her and be a father to this baby boy. She knew these things, but we don’t know what other personal spiritual moments God had with her to know how much of an understanding she really had.

As A Mother Myself

As a mother myself, I can’t imagine what she must have been thinking. I can’t imagine what she went through. The internal trial, the family and society issues that she had to bear. Can you imagine being a virgin and ending up pregnant? In today’s world and as a human in general, it would down right terrifying. It is much more accepted to be pregnant out of wedlock today than it was in Mary’s time.

The thing of it is however, God chose her. He chose her because he knew she could handle it. When you look at it this way, it gives her great credit that words can not describe of the person she was. Would any of us be in a category that he would choose one of us for such an important purpose?

Faith

I believe faith and obedience obviously among other things were strong traits that not only Mary but Joseph had. God knew he had to pick his children that would listen and obey and have the faith to do what he asked. Some might say, well, God is God, and he could have just made them do whatever he wanted. Yes, there is no doubt he could have, but that is not how he handles us. He gave us free will. He wants us to make the right decisions on our own or else we would all be walking robots. That is an entire different discussion for another day.

They called him Jesus

Mary knew Jesus was special no doubt, but how special, and if she understood that he was God himself, we will never know. Did God speak to her and Joseph throughout the years as they were raising him into adulthood? We will never know while we are here on this earth, but if I were to guess I would say yes. Isn’t that what he does with each of us everyday?
