Vatican City Is It’s Own Country | Smallest Country in the World

Did you know that Vatican City is it’s own country? Did you know that it is the smallest country in the world? It is hard to understand how this could be but we will discuss this in more detail to try to get a better understanding.

The size of the Country is just around 109 acres. This is right at 1/6th of a section of land or 640 acres to put it in perspective. It’s population is around 1,000.

The only people allowed to live there are the clergy and the police force which are Swiss Guards over the country. There are over 2,400 other people who work in the country traveling from Italy. Citizenship is not dictated by birth like other countries, it is decided on who resides within the boundary and of course there are criteria for that.

The Swiss Guard and Italian Guardia Svizzera are responsible for guarding the Country and the Pope. Collectively, they are considered the smallest army in the world.

The country has a dress code. You must be appropriately dressed in order to enter The Vatican City or otherwise this country. No hats, low cut shirts or miniskirts allowed.
